Active Acne

What is Active Acne?

Active acne is a very common skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil (sebum), dead skin cells, and bacteria. It can present as blackheads, whiteheads, inflamed pimples, or deeper cystic lesions, and may affect the face, chest, back, and shoulders. Acne can impact not only the skin but also confidence and overall wellbeing.

Common Types of Acne

  • Comedonal Acne: Non-inflammatory acne including blackheads and whiteheads caused by blocked pores
  • Inflammatory Acne: Red, swollen pimples and pustules resulting from bacterial overgrowth and inflammation
  • Cystic Acne: Severe form of acne with deep, painful nodules or cysts that carry a higher risk of scarring

What Causes Acne?

Acne is often influenced by a combination of factors, including:

  • Excess oil production
  • Buildup of dead skin cells
  • Acne-causing bacteria
  • Hormonal fluctuations
  • Lifestyle factors such as stress, diet, and skincare habits

How We Can Help

At our aesthetic clinic, treatment is tailored to your skin type, acne severity, and underlying causes. Options may include:

  • LED Light Therapy: Targets acne-causing bacteria and reduces inflammation
  • DMK Enzyme Therapy: Helps strengthen skin function, improve oxygenation, and support the skin’s natural healing processes
  • Advanced Treatments: Customised solutions and combination therapies for more persistent or severe acne
  • Prescription Medications: Target underlying causes of acne, including topical or oral treatments where appropriate
  • Medical-Grade Skincare: Active ingredients such as salicylic acid, retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, and niacinamide to control breakouts and regulate oil
  • Ongoing Skin Management: Guidance on skincare routines and lifestyle adjustments to maintain results

Why Early Treatment Matters

Early and appropriate treatment helps reduce inflammation, minimise the risk of scarring and pigmentation, and prevent acne from worsening—leading to healthier, clearer skin over time.

Pigmentation

What is Pigmentation?

Pigmentation concerns are one of the most common skin conditions affecting tone and overall complexion. They occur when melanin (the pigment responsible for skin colour) is overproduced or unevenly distributed in certain areas. While pigmentation is usually harmless, it can impact confidence and may require targeted treatment for improvement.

Types of Pigmentation

  • Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH): Darkened patches that appear after skin inflammation or injury (such as acne, eczema, or minor trauma). More common in medium to deeper skin tones. Usually flat and fade over time, but can persist without treatment
  • Melasma: Symmetrical brown or grey-brown patches, often on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip, or jawline. Commonly triggered by hormones and sun exposure. Chronic condition that requires ongoing management.
  • Sunspots (Solar Lentigines): Also known as age spots or liver spots. Caused by prolonged sun exposure. Common on the face, hands, shoulders, and décolletage
  • Freckles (Ephelides): Small, light-brown spots that become darker with sun exposure. Often genetic and more visible in lighter skin types
  • Hypopigmentation: Lighter patches of skin caused by reduced melanin. May occur after inflammation, certain skin conditions, or procedures

Why Early Treatment Matters

Early treatment helps prevent pigmentation from becoming deeper and more resistant, reduces recurrence triggered by sun exposure, and promotes healthier, brighter-looking skin—ultimately supporting improved confidence and longer-lasting results.

How Can We Help?

At our aesthetic clinic, treatments are tailored to your skin type, pigmentation pattern, and underlying triggers. Options may include:

  • Laser & Light-Based Treatments: Target excess pigment in the skin and help break down darkened areas for a more even complexion
  • Microneedling: Supports skin renewal and can assist in improving mild pigmentation and overall tone
  • Combination Therapy: Often the most effective approach, especially for melasma and stubborn pigmentation
  • Medical-Grade Skincare: Active ingredients such as vitamin C, retinoids, azelaic acid, and pigment-regulating agents to brighten and support even skin tone
  • Daily SPF is essential to prevent worsening and recurrence

Acne scarring

What is acne scarring?

Acne scarring is a common concern that can affect both skin texture and confidence. Scars form when inflamed acne lesions damage the deeper layers of the skin. As the skin heals, collagen is produced — and if too much or too little is formed, visible scarring can occur.

Types of Acne Scars

Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH): Dark marks left after acne heals. Not true scars as there is no texture change, and they often fade over time but may benefit from treatment.

Atrophic (Depressed) Scars: Atrophic (depressed) scars are the most common type of acne scarring, caused by collagen loss and resulting in skin indentations. They include ice pick (deep, narrow pits), boxcar (wider with defined edges), and rolling scars (uneven, wave-like texture).

Hypertrophic & Keloid Scars: Raised, firm scars caused by excess collagen production, commonly found on the chest, shoulders, and back.

Why Early Treatment Matters

  • Reduces risk of permanent scarring
  • Improves overall skin health
  • Boosts confidence and long-term results

How Can We Help?

At our aesthetic clinic, treatments are tailored to your skin type and scar pattern. Options may include:

  • Microneedling stimulates natural collagen remodelling and improves texture and mild–moderate scarring
  • Laser Skin Resurfacing targets deeper layers of skin, encourages collagen remodelling and improves texture and tone
  • Subcision releases tethered (rolling) scars and helps smooth uneven skin
  • Biostimulator or Volumisers temporarily lift depressed scars and could provide immediate  or gradual improvement
  • Medical-Grade Skincare such as retinoids to support cell turnover, rejuvenate skin and SPF to prevent further discoloration
