What is exosome therapy?

Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles involved in cell-to-cell signalling. In aesthetic practice, exosome-based preparations may be discussed alongside selected skin or scalp procedures.

For scalp concerns, the cause of visible thinning should be assessed before any additional procedure is discussed.

What can Exosome therapy address?

The role of an exosome procedure depends on the concern being assessed and the procedure being considered.

Dr Wong assesses each person individually before discussing whether this approach is appropriate.

Individual suitability

Dr Wong reviews skin or scalp concerns, medical history, allergies and recent procedures before discussing whether an additional preparation is appropriate.

The proposed method, relevant limitations, risks, alternatives and recovery should be explained before you decide whether to proceed.

  • Skin-focused use: may be discussed alongside selected microneedling or laser procedures.
  • Scalp-focused use: may be discussed for visible thinning after the possible cause of the hair change has been assessed.
  • Recent procedures: the timing of any additional procedure should be reviewed after microneedling or laser.
Microneedling is an accompanying procedure, not a predicted outcome
Clinical imagery is illustrative and does not show or predict a treatment outcome.

What happens at your appointment?

The exosome preparation may be applied after procedures that create controlled microchannels in the skin, depending on the approach selected.

Preparation

The skin is cleansed, and topical anaesthetic may be applied depending on the procedure.

Delivery

The solution may be applied after microneedling, RF microneedling or selected fractional laser treatments.

Appointment time

A combined appointment usually takes around 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the area and procedure.

Comfort

Sensation depends mainly on the accompanying procedure. Dr Wong will explain what to expect before you decide to proceed.

Expected timeline and number of appointments

If a visible change occurs, it may develop over weeks to months. Responses vary and a beneficial change is not guaranteed.

More than one appointment may be discussed. The number and spacing should be reviewed according to the area, accompanying procedure and individual response.

  • Suitability, response, recovery and maintenance needs vary.
  • Further appointments are based on review rather than an automatic fixed course.
  • Another approach or no procedure may be appropriate after assessment.

Downtime, risks and aftercare

Before recommending it, the practitioner asks about your skin history, allergies and any recent treatments to confirm suitability.

Redness or sensitivity can occur after the procedure. Recovery time depends on the accompanying procedure and individual response.

Aftercare typically includes:

  • Avoiding direct sun and using sunscreen for a few days afterwards.
  • Not touching or scratching the treated area.
  • Limiting heavy makeup or potentially irritating products straight after the procedure.
  • Following any personalised aftercare guidance from Dr Wong.

Individual aftercare

Use the skincare and activity advice provided for the accompanying procedure. Avoid scratching or picking at the treated area.

Contact the clinic if redness, sensitivity or other symptoms worsen or are unexpected.
